Mahendra Singh Dhoni, popularly known as MS Dhoni, is a former Indian cricketer and one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket. He was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.
Dhoni is primarily known for his achievements as the captain of the Indian national cricket team, leading them to numerous victories across all three formats of the game. Under his captaincy, India won the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. He became the first captain to win all three ICC global tournaments.
Apart from his captaincy skills, Dhoni was also known for his exceptional wicket-keeping abilities and his powerful batting. He was often referred to as the best finisher in limited-overs cricket, as he displayed incredible composure and ability to finish matches with big hits.
Dhoni made his international debut for India in December 2004 in an ODI against Bangladesh. He went on to represent the country in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is. In his international career, he scored over 10,000 runs in ODIs and became one of the most successful wicket-keepers in the history of the game.
In August 2020, Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of an illustrious career that spanned 16 years. Despite retiring from international cricket, he continued to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. Under his leadership, CSK won the IPL title multiple times.
Dhoni's contribution to Indian cricket is widely recognized, and he is regarded as one of the most influential and beloved cricketers in the country. His calm demeanor, tactical acumen, and ability to handle pressure earned him immense respect from teammates and fans alike.
